CALL OUR REPRESENTATIVES -

Topics for the week of June 8th, 2026:

US Senate and House

Please take the time this week to call Senators Bernie Moreno, Jon Husted, and Representative Troy Balderson

Senator Bernie Moreno. 202-224-2315, 614-469-2083- Columbus, OH

Senator Jon Husted, 202-224-3353, 614-369-4925 - Columbus, OH

Representative Troy Balderson. 202-225-5355, 614-523-2555 - Pickerington, OH

We have three federal topics this week.

Oppose the ICE and CBP Budget Reconciliation Funding Bill

June 5, 2026: The Senate has passed their budget reconciliation bill without any barriers on Trump’s ‘anti-weaponization’ slush fund. The legislation now moves to the House for final passage.

Because the budget reconciliation process requires new expenditures be offset by equivalent budget cuts, this will inevitably lead to additional cuts to essential social safety net programs like Affordable Care Act financial assistance

As midterms approach, constituents must condemn further cuts to essential services, including healthcare programs, to finance Trump’s racist, imperialist agenda at home and abroad. Instead of playing political games to appease the wishes of a dictator, Congress must focus on reining in the harms caused by Republican policies, from skyrocketing healthcare and fuel costs to horrific human rights abuses perpetrated by ICE & CBP.

Script (for Representative Balderson)

Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [YOUR CITY].

I'm calling to urge Rep. Balderson to oppose the budget reconciliation bill that funds ICE and Border Patrol without any reforms or accountability. Congress should be working to stop these rogue agencies from endangering the American public, not using a sneaky partisan procedure to enable them.

Stop collaborating with this corrupt and lawless administration!

Thank you for your time and consideration.

No War With Iran

June 3, 2026: The House has passed Iran War Powers Resolution H.Con.Res. 86 by a vote of 215-208. The resolution now moves to the Senate.

Trump and his cabinet continue to defy the constitution and lie about the costs and objectives of this war of choice.  14 American service members have died.  Thousands of civilians throughout the region have been killed or wounded.  Gas prices are near $4.50 per gallon.  And there is no end in sight.

Congress cannot allow Trump to start and exploit devastating geopolitical conflicts for his own benefit. Call your representatives and tell them to assert their constitutional authority over this unjustified and unnecessary war of choice.

Script (for Senator Husted and Senator Moreno)

Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [YOUR CITY].

I'm calling to urge [Senator Husted, Senator Moreno] to support the House-passed War Powers Resolution H.Con.Res. 86 to end the administration's war with Iran. This unauthorized and unnecessary war has been wreaking havoc on our economy and energy supply and needs to end.

Your continued silence and inaction make you complicit in this illegal and unjust war.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Oppose Todd Blanche for Attorney General

Trump has nominated his former personal criminal defense attorney, Todd Blanche, to serve as Attorney General of the United States.

Blanche, who previously served as Deputy Attorney General, is the current Acting Attorney General, and there are serious concerns that he will further politicize the Justice Department. Blanche has pursued investigations into several of Trump’s perceived political enemies, leading former prosecutors and legal scholars to warn that the department is being used as a tool for political retaliation.

Blanche also praised Trump’s mass pardons of January 6 defendants and helped create the controversial $1.8 billion Thug Fund for the so-called political victims of the Biden administration. Last year, he traveled to Florida to meet with convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell, who reportedly received limited immunity to answer questions during the unorthodox interview.

The Attorney General is the nation’s top law enforcement officer, not the president’s personal attorney. The Senate should reject the nomination of Todd Blanche and demand an Attorney General who will put the Constitution and the rule of law above political loyalty.

Script (for Senator Husted and Senator Moreno)

Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [YOUR CITY].

I'm calling to urge [Senator Husted, Senator Moreno] to oppose Todd Blanche for Attorney General. Todd Blanche has shown that his loyalty is to the president, not the Constitution or the American public, making him unfit to serve as Attorney General.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Ohio Gov., Senate and House of Representatives

Please take time this week to call Ohio Senator Tim Schaffer, Representative Thadeus Claggett, and Representative Kevin Miller

Senator Tim Schaffer. (614) 466-8076

Representative Thaddeus Claggett. (614) 466-1482

Representative Kevin MIller. (614) 466-2500

Governor DeWine. (614) 644-4357. https://governor.ohio.gov/contact/contact-us

We have three state topics this week.

Support A Ban Of New Data Centers In Ohio

The surge of data centers in Ohio—currently exceeding 200 facilities—has sparked significant local concern centered on four key areas:

  • Infrastructure & Cost: Data centers consume massive amounts of electricity, straining the power grid. This demand is projected to increase average residential utility bills by an estimated $70 per month by 2028.

  • Environmental Impact: These facilities require millions of gallons of water daily for cooling, threatening local supplies and risking chemical pollution in waterways like Lake Erie.

  • Community Disruption: Residents report constant noise pollution from cooling systems and the loss of valuable farmland as facilities expand into rural and suburban areas.

  • Economic Imbalance: Despite receiving nearly $2.5 billion in tax incentives, data centers create relatively few local jobs.

In response, several Ohio communities have begun pausing developments or actively protesting new projects to study these long-term impacts.

HB 646, which creates the Data Center Study Commission, has passed the House and is now being considered in the Senate.  The commission would study various topics related to the environmental, economic, and energy impacts of data centers.

Call your State Senator and Representative and ask them to support a moratorium on any new data center construction and to support the Data Center Study Commission.

Script Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [YOUR CITY].

I’m calling because I’m deeply concerned about the "digital land grab" happening in our rural communities.

We have over 200 data centers now, and they are destroying valuable farmland and creating constant noise pollution. I support the creation of the Data Center Study Commission under House Bill 646, but I want [Senator Schaffer/Representative Claggett/Representative Miller] to go further and support a moratorium on new permits until that study is complete.

We need to know how our water levels and power grid will be affected before we let more of these facilities break ground.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Oppose Senate Joint Resolution 10 and House Joint Resolution 9 - Unnecessary Constitutional Amendments

Ohio’s constitution should protect the rights of its citizens, not lock in short-sighted and flawed policies. Senate Joint Resolution 10 and House Joint Resolution 9 are rushed attempts by partisan lawmakers to force a photo ID amendment onto this fall's ballot.  By constitutionalizing these strict requirements without proper deliberation, the state risks creating rigid barriers to the ballot box.  The current proposal also completely ignores mail-in voting and shuts the door on new technologies that could actually make our elections more secure and accessible.

The sloppy, hurried language of these resolutions creates immediate risks for eligible voters, particularly those who have served our country. The current text focuses strictly on physical "cards and documents," effectively locking out veterans who rely entirely on digital IDs issued by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. A constitution should not be used to disenfranchise military veterans over a technicality, nor should it pass without explicit guarantees that the required identification will always be provided entirely free of charge to every citizen.

Despite these glaring flaws, Republicans are attempting to ram HJR 9 through before their summer recess by relying solely on a supermajority, bypassing any meaningful bipartisan debate or input from the public. Rushing a permanent constitutional amendment without fixing these critical errors is a disservice to Ohio voters.

Urge you Senator and Representative to oppose SJR 10 and HJR 9 and demand a more thoughtful, inclusive, and secure approach to our state's voting laws.

Script Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [YOUR CITY].

I am calling to urge [Senator Schaffer/Representative Claggett/Representative Miller] to oppose Senate Joint Resolution 10 and House Joint Resolution 9.

These resolutions rush a photo ID amendment onto the ballot without proper deliberation, creating rigid barriers for voters while completely ignoring mail-in options.

By focusing strictly on physical documents, the sloppy language locks out veterans who rely on digital IDs from the VA. We should never disenfranchise our veterans over a technicality.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Oppose House Bill 795 - Prohibiting medicaid payment for personal care services provided by family members to disabled citizens.

A new substitute version of Ohio House Bill 795, known as the SHIELD Act, purports to curb Medicaid fraud by banning paid family caregiving and enforcing mandatory fines up to $15,000.

Supported by House Republicans, the supposed anti-fraud bill would also mandate electronic visit verification (EVV), restrict home health care providers, and suspend payments to suspected fraudulent operations.

Disabled Ohioans and their advocates packed a House committee hearing for over two hours to strongly protest the legislation. Opponents argue that stripping funding from family caregivers will worsen the existing shortage of paid home aides, ultimately forcing thousands of disabled individuals out of their homes and into costly long-term care facilities.

Advocates urged lawmakers to halt the fast-tracked bill, warning that rushing the complex legislation without properly studying the system will cause severe "human damage." Disabled taxpayers testified that access to home care is essential for their daily independence, employment, and overall survival.

Script  Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [YOUR CITY].

I am calling to urge [Senator Schaffer/Representative Claggett/Representative Miller] to oppose House Bill 795.  The recently added ban on paid family care giving is short sighted and will only worsen the existing shortage of paid home aids.  If this legislation passes, it could force thousands of disabled taxpayers from their homes and into expensive long-term care facilities.

Stand up for the daily independence of disabled Ohio citizens.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
